Tony Shaloub as Adrian Monk the OCD Detective

Adrian Monk (Tony Shaloub) is the brilliant but quirky detective who was booted off the San Francisco Police Department when his grief over the murder of his wife, Trudy, aggravated OCD symptoms and made it difficult for him to function. Even with paralyzing OCD symptoms, Monk’s acute powers of observation and attention to detail make him the best detective in San Francisco. His former boss, Captain Leland Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) hires Monk as a consultant to solve the toughest cases. Monk relies on his personal assistant, Natalie Teeger (Traylor Howard), who pushes the detective to overcome his fears and compulsions.

Tony Shaloub stated. in the interview, that as the series draws to a close, the questions will be answered and hopefully the character will start on the road to recovery.

Tony Shaloub Interview Questions and Answers

Q What is the lasting impression you would like the audience to take from your show:

Tony Shaloub: If I had to choose one thing, I would want people to take away the idea that sometimes problems or neuroses are really a kind of blessing in disguise. Even though there is pain that sometimes in the face of adversity, with obstacles to overcome, people can really kind of soar and find their higher selves.

Q: Sometimes, in life and death situations, Monk can overcome the OCD, but he will never be completely without it. How do you think the season will find him in terms of the OCD? Will solving the case with Trudy give Monk more control?

Tony Shaloub: I think it will help him and give him some kind of peace. In that peace, his ODC symptoms will begin to significantly drop away. When that happens, I think he will be able to move forward in his life. He won’t feel so paralyzed. Monk won’t feel such an aversion to being with other people.

Q: How is the final season structured?

Tony Shaloub: We are doing 16 episodes, as usual. The first 11 episodes are going to be standalone, and the last five will be kind of connected and well will start to get into the wrap up, not just of Monk, but of some of the other characters as well. The final two episodes will be one story, a two part that will involve the wrap up of Trudy’s murder.

Monk airs on USA Network at 9 PM ET on Friday nights.
