The Office: The Promotion Review

Jim’s Promotion Wasn’t Used to Its Full Potential

With Jim being promoted to co-manager last week, the possibility for hilarious moments was set. However, The Promotion did not take advantage of those possibilities.

Last week, Jim was promoted to co-manager. So now Jim and Michael would both be running the company. This opened up a lot of possibilities for funny moments between Jim and Dwight since Dwight has been pushing for a promotion since the beginning of the show.

Dwight Revolts Against Jim

Dwight wasted little time in trying to get the office to revolt against Jim. Despite the fact that Dwight’s reason for revolting is completely personal the rest of the office has seemed to side with Dwight for business reasons.

However, the only moment between Jim and Dwight was in the very beginning. This scene was the best part of the whole episode because the Jim vs. Dwight battle now has new meaning with Jim being Dwight’s superior. There needs to be more comic relief between Jim and Dwight. Those were the best moments before Jim got a promotion, and they will be even better with Jim as Dwight’s boss.

The rest of the episode was dedicated to Michael and Jim having to figure who to give raises to since there was not enough money to give raises to all of the office employees. The accounting department was irate when Jim decided to give the raises to the salesmen, mostly because Pam is in sales.

After the first commercial break, a random scene between Creed and Meredith took place. Creed subtly asked Meredith why they haven’t had sex and Meredith tells him that they have.

This seemed very out of place with the rest of the episode, especially because there was no further mention of it. It almost appears as if the writers knew they needed more comedy, and put in a quick joke just to make the episode more appealing.

Jim is the New Michael Scott

While this episode was not the funniest episode, it did show how tough being a boss will be for Jim. Michael has proven time and time again that he is the last person that should ever be boss. However, being a boss is also not an easy responsibility and Michael deals with it in unorthodox ways. Jim is trying to stay away from those unorthodox ways, but when he and Michael refuse to answer the door at the end of the episode, it appears he may just be copying Michael’s style.

Jim has figured out that being boss is not as easy as Michael sometimes makes it seem. He’s realized that he has to make tough decisions that the other employees do not want to hear. He even admitted in the episode that the only friends he has left in the office are Michael and Pam (he thinks).

Jim and Pam Are Getting Married

For next week’s episode, Jim and Pam are finally getting married. This is the episode that office fans have been waiting for since the beginning. It will no doubt be an emotional episode, and if the past has taught us anything, Michael will try and make it special, but just end up making himself look like an idiot.

Despite Roy’s attempt to kill Jim when he found out that he kissed Pam, it seems unlikely that he will make an appearance at the wedding. However, with all the romance in the air, it would be ideal for Holly to re-enter the picture, maybe not this episode, but possibly the next one. She has not been seen since the end of the fifth season, and a wedding would be a perfect opportunity for Michael to reveal his feelings for her.
