Jim and Pam have returned from Puerto Rico. However, when Michael tells Jim and Pam that he slept with Pam's mom, Pam is irate and Michael shows no signs of backing down.
After one episode away from the camera, Jim and Pam have returned much to the delight of the rest of the office. Things are looking great for this newlywed as they appear more in love than when they left. However, all hell breaks loose when Michael informs Jim that he slept with Pam’s mom at the wedding. Jim tells Michael not to tell Pam, but when Pam hears that Michael is dating one of his co-worker’s mom, Pam finds out and storms out of the office. Michael and Pam continue to fight throughout the entire episode. Michael asks Pam if she just wants him to be happy and Pam says she could give a **** about Michael’s happiness. Michael counters by telling Pam he’s going to date her mom “even harder.” At the end of the episode, Michael says goodnight to Pam and Pam does not respond. Pam appears to calm down when Jim talks to her, but she will no doubt carry some resentment to the next episode. Dwight Continues to Attempt to Sabotage JimWhile Pam is concerned with her mom sleeping with Michael, Dwight is attempting to sabotage Jim yet again. It seemed like Dwight’s attempts at sabotage were coming to an end, but as soon as Jim returns, Dwight wastes no time attempting to get Jim demoted. Even though Dwight usually knows what he is doing in these circumstances, Jim easily finds the recorder hidden in the wooden mallard Dwight gives him. This is very unlike Dwight to make such a lame attempt at listening in on Jim. However, later do we learn what a true genius Dwight is. At the end of the episode, Dwight explains that he had to get Jim to find the recorder in the mallard so Jim would think Dwight wouldn’t try and spy on him again. Dwight shows the audience the pen that he placed in Jim’s office earlier in the episode and explains that he has recorded 8 hours of Jim talking. Dwight plays the part perfectly. When Jim confronts Dwight about the hidden recorder, Dwight explains that he was jealous that Jim got the promotion. He asks Jim not to tell Michael and in return Dwight has to wash Jim’s car. It appears Dwight will stop at nothing to get Jim demoted. He’s making it appear as if his attempts are weak so that Jim has nothing to worry about. However, knowing Jim and Dwight’s history, it wouldn’t be surprising if Jim knew what Dwight was doing the entire time. Jim obviously knows that Dwight is spying on him, it would be very ingenious of Jim to set up Dwight and than catch him again when Dwight least expected it. Michael and Toby Become Brief FriendsAfter having a big argument in front of the entire office with Pam, Michael wants Toby’s help to get this issue solved. Toby offers to talk to Pam and Michael is so relieved that he actually gives Toby a hug. Could Michael finally be friendly towards Toby? Even Toby explains to the audience that he felt as soon as Michael got to know him that would become friends. However, after Toby fails to get Pam to talk, Michael calls Toby a jackass and things are back to normal between those two. It’s amazing how Toby lets Michael treat him like crap. Obviously from an audience’s view, this battle is funny to watch and getting rid of Toby again would not be a good idea. However, it seems like if this were a real-life scenario, Toby would have quit a long time ago, or gotten Michael fired. This episode was a big improvement over “Mafia.” Jim and Pam returned and there is a lot of tension in the office. Although it appears the newlyweds are on stable ground for now, this drama will definitely test their relationship.
