The Office - Koi Pond Review

A Uneventful Episode Leads to Many Unanswered Questions

With Michael and Pam getting in a huge fight last episode, the stage was set for another battle. However, the writers avoided the issue and didn't further the plot.

“Koi Pond” started off with Jim and Michael talking about a meeting they were going to. However, Jim was under the impression that he was going by himself. Eventually, the other people involved in the meeting said they would be more comfortable if Michael came along too.

Jim is upset and speaks to the audience about how he is never given an opportunity to do anything by himself. Michael is always there standing right beside him to make sure that he is doing everything right.

It’s good to see Jim actually care about his job. There was some skepticism as to whether Jim would take advantage of his new power, but Jim seems to be willing to learn and do what he can to make Dunder-Mifflin the best that it can be.

Andy and Pam Make Cold Calls

Last episode, Pam found out about Michael having sex with her mother. Instead of continuing to further that plot, the writers made no mention of it whatsoever. Instead, they had Andy and Pam go out of the office and make cold calls while Michael and the rest of the cast stayed at the office.

While it was a good idea to not leave Pam and Michael in the office together, it would have been nice to see if Pam has thought about the situation a bit more. It appeared like this would become a big part of the show, and then the writers completely left it out.

There were some funny moments during Pam and Andy’s scenes. Most of them involved the customers thinking Pam and Andy were a couple, which led to some awkward moments. Pam laughed when the first customer suggested this and when the second customer suggested it Andy got back at Pam saying he only dated face models.

Michael Falls Into a Koi Pond

The other story that occurred during this episode was Michael falling into a koi pond. Seems like something that a whole episode shouldn’t be centered around, but they made it very enjoyable.

The entire office was cracking jokes about Michael falling into the pond. It gets better at the end when everybody finds out that Jim had a chance to save Michael and instead leaned out of the way. Jim confesses that he was upset about Michael coming along to the meeting and he apologized to Michael.

Andy Confides in Pam

During the ride back from the cold calls, Andy tells Pam that he is sick of being single. He tells her that he’s interested in Erin, but Pam seems to think he can do better. However, when Pam gets back to the office, she asks Erin what she thinks about Andy and Erin says that Andy is a cool guy.

While it may not seem like a groundbreaking conversation, it wouldn’t be surprising to see something happening between Erin and Andy in the next few episodes. The writers have been hinting at this relationship ever since Erin came to the office in season 5.

However, they have been making subtle references to it since then and it seems like something could be emerging quite soon. Not only that, but what will happen between Michael and Pam? Is Dwight ever going to get back with Angela? Is Holly ever going to come back?

There are so many questions that need to be answered. Obviously, all of them won’t be answered in one week, but let’s hope most of them if not all of them get answered before the end of the season.
