The Bill Engvall Show Returns

The Third Season Begins on TBS

Jul 15, 2009 Francine Brokaw

Bill Engvall is a stand-up comic and stars in his own sitcom on TBS, which returns for its third season.

Engvall stars along with Nancy Travis as a married couple with three completely different kids. The oldest son is a dimwit, to put it mildly. The daughter is only into looks, clothing and makeup. And the youngest son is a genius with no social skills. The three make a unique set of siblings.

Tim Meadows also stars as the family’s best friend. Bill Pearson (Engvall) is a family counselor and Paul DuFrayne (Meadows) is a hair-replacement specialists. Together these men are like a modern-day Lucy and Ethel. They scheme and plot, and generally have a great time.

The Economy Takes its Toll on the Family

This season the bad economic times reflect in the storylines of the series. In the opening episode, Bill has promised his daughter she can go to Mexico for Spring break. His little girl is the light of his life and he wants to make her happy. But when his wife tells him they don’t have extra money to send her on the trip, he is more crushed than she is. He is her little girl and he would do anything for her. But he just cannot scrounge up the extra money for her trip.

Engvall is known for his Blue Collar Comedy Tour with Jeff Foxworthy, Ron White, and Larry the Cable Guy. Nancy Travis has been in Becker, The Jane Austen Book Club, Three Men and a Baby, Three Men and a Little Lady, Almost Perfect, and many other films and television shows.

Bill Engvall Stars as Well as Produces

Engvall is also the executive producer of the show, along with J.P. Williams, Mark Kunerth, and James Widdoes. All this talent adds up to some fun sitcom episodes. And even though Bill Engvall is not a as seasoned an actor as Nancy Travis, he definitely brings his great timing and sense of humor to the series. Engvall has appeared in The Jeff Foxworthy Show, Delta, Cowboy Dreams, and other shows.

With humor, the Pearson family faces the trials and tribulations of life in the 21st century. Whether they’re dealing with their naked neighbor who’s hot tub they can see from their bedroom window, or their oldest son who signed up for the Model UN not knowing what it was about, this family is enjoyable to watch.

The Bill Engvall Show returns to TBS on Saturday, July 18, at 9 PM ET/PT, bringing comedy back to Saturday night. According to Michael Wright, executive vice president oand head of programming for TBS, TNT and TCM, “We believe it’s time for another high-quality, family-friendly sitcom on Saturdays. The Bill Engvall Show will be a great part of summer weekends.”
