Emmy-winning Sherri Shepherd debuts her new sitcom on Lifetime this October. Aptly named Sherri, the new comedy show follows the hectic life of a single, working mother.

Fresh from winning her first Daytime Emmy Award for co-hosting work on The View, comedienne Sherri Shepherd expands her acting career by way of a self-titled comedy series, Sherri. Lifetime picked up a twelve episode run on the new sitcom which debuts on October 5th at 7PM ET/PT. Sherri is the first show to be fully owned by Lifetime.

Followed by a second season of Rita Rocks, Lifetime creates a comedy hour to entice viewers. Sherri will air for an entire first week before sliding into its regular time slot on Tuesdays at 10PM ET/PT.

The new sitcom centers around Sherri and is said to be loosely based on experiences from her real life. Sherri is a recently divorced single mother struggling with a hectic life. She holds down a paralegal job while working part-time as a comedienne/actress while struggling to enter the dating. Supported by her girlfriend coworkers, Sherri moves forward in her life.

The primary cast features Tammy Townsend, Elizabeth Regen, and Kali Rocha with multi-episode guest appearances by Malcolm-Jamal Warner and James Avery. Malcolm, best known for Cosby Show, plays Sherri's cheating ex-husband while James Avery of Fresh Prince of Bel Air will play her father.

Sherri Shepherd New Book Permission Slips to Release in October

In addition to her new sitcom Sherri, Sherri Shepherd is set to release her first book, Permission Slips: Every Woman's Guide to Giving Herself a Break. The book is autobiographical and recounts Sherri's climb to fame while handling her roles as professional, mother, daughter, wife, and friend. Through Sherri's experiences, the book seeks to help women face daily struggles while encouraging women to tackle their dreams.

Set to release on October 5th in conjunction with the Sherri comedy series, Permission Slips is currently available for pre-order from Amazon.com.

Sherri Shepherd's New Comedy Series Debuts in October

Sherri Shepherd's hectic life doesn't appear to be slowing down. With a new sitcom and a new book releasing next month, Sherri intends to continue her co-hosting duties on The View.

Sherri's new TV show will debut on Lifetime October 5th and it remains to be seen how it will fair on a cable network. While Lifetime isn't necessarily top of mind when thinking of comedy shows to watch, the network is working to build up a sitcom reputation with existing Rita Rocks and new TV show Sherri.
