In the season premier of Rita Rocks, Rita (Nicole Sullivan) is still very happy with her rock band. It fulfills her and gives her a purpose outside of her family and her responsibilities as a mom. Her husband Jay (Richard Ruccolo) is content as are her two daughters.
By having the rock band, Rita feels like she is getting in touch with the woman she used to be before PTA meetings. She is happier than she has been in a long time. She has her family and her music group, which are her second family.
Everything is going great until she accidentally discovers a condom in the wallet of one of her band members. This is the guy who is dating her daughter Hallie (Natalie Dreyfuss). Kip (Ricky Ullman) and Hallie have been together for awhile and Rita the mother, not Rita the rocker, fears the worse.
Being a Responsible Parent
It is now time for a mother/daughter talk. Rita does not want to be like her own mother. She wants to be a modern mom who understands her children. She also wants to be a responsible mother.
Rita and Hallie discuss “the condom” and Rita decides it is time for Hallie to go on birth control pills. She knows that the time will come when her daughter takes the next step in her life, and she does not want her to be unprepared. The last thing she wants is her daughter to get pregnant. So she takes her to her doctor for Hallie’s first examination, which is harder on Rita than it is on Hallie.
Jay is flustered by this new family situation, but he agrees with his wife. Being a responsible parent is the best thing to do. And if their daughter got pregnant they would be the ones helping to raise the child. Their own children are growing up and they are looking forward to having their life as a couple back.
Changes for All of the Characters
In the meantime, another member of the band, Patty (Tisha Campbell-Martin) is frantic that her son is about to move away. Her stress takes the form of constant eating.
This season premier is filled with changes for the entire cast. Everyone is facing some kind of life-altering situation. There are surprises galore for the fans.
The Rita Rocks season premier is scheduled for Monday, October 5, 2009, at 7:30 PM ET on Lifetime. The show then moves to its regular time slot on Tuesdays at 10:30 PM ET on Lifetime.
