Though the show was canceled, DVD will allow new viewers to meet these characters and see where three of today's rising comedic actors got their major breakthrough.

Michael Bluth - Jason Bateman

The show revolved largely around this character. He is, as Ron Howard tells us in the shows introduction, the son that tries to keep the family together, despite their materialism, selfishness, and lack of tact in virtually any situation. Michael is the symbol of stability in the Bluth family through his hard-working and self-sacrificing nature. He does, however, act unethically from time to time, leading to some of his more memorable comedic moments in the show.

Bateman has recently appeared in the Indie hit Juno, where he played Mark Loring. He also plays Ray Embrey in the 2008 summer Blockbuster Hancock alongside Will Smith and Charlize Theron.

George Michael Bluth - Michael Cera

George Michael is the teenage son of Jason Bateman's character. He reflects this in his willingness to work hard to help his father, mainly working at the Bluth banana stand (referred to by hippies as "the big yellow joint" on the show). Cera's character is often very awkward, especially around his cousin Maeby, who he is secretly in love with. His interaction with his girlfriend Ann is also a source of many jokes in which his father never remembers her name, calling her "Egg," "Plain," and "Annabel," much to George Michael's chagrin.

He shared the screen with Bateman again in Juno, portraying Paulie Bleeker, one of the lead roles in the film. The comedy George Michael's awkward nature in Arrested Development is echoed in his role as Evan in the 2007 movie Superbad. The success of these two movies has put him on the map in the comedy world.

George Oscar "G.O.B." Bluth II - Will Arnett

His name, pronounced like the biblical figure Job, derives from his initials. He is the womanizing older brother of Michael Bluth. Arnett's funniest moments arguably come from G.O.B.'s his career as a magician (claiming that he performs "illusions," not "tricks), often ridiculed by his family and others. G.O.B. is also quite dumb at times. He thinks Portugal is in South America, and decides to make the family yacht "disappear" by blowing it up with dynamite. The theme song of his magic shows is "The Final Countdown" by the 80's rock band Europe.

Arnett is another actor who has garnered a lot of work since his performance in the series. He starred in Let's Go to Prison and The Brothers Solomon. The most successful project he has appeared in is Blades of Glory starring Will Ferrell, which has grossed approximately $118 million domestically (Box-Office Mojo).

The entire series can be purchased on Amazon.com for $45.60. At that price, the 3 seasons of this classic TV show is a steal and should be grabbed by any sitcom fan.
