How I Met Your Mother, Season 5 Premiere on CBSWill the Identity of Ted's Future Wife be Revealed?
Robin and Barney's relationship progresses, despite their efforts to disregard it, and Ted starts his new job as an architect professor.
For the past four seasons, viewers have been guessing and anticipating the identity of Ted’s future wife. The whole premise of How I Met Your Mother is an older Ted (narrated by Bob Saget) is telling his kids the story of how he met their mother. This premise was a seemingly fleeting concept; however, it has managed to thrive and is now in its fifth season. In the Season 5 Premiere, Narrator Ted tells his kids that their mother was in the first class that he taught as a college architect professor. Thus, hinting to the viewers that this might be the moment they have waited for since the beginning of the show in 2005. Barney and Robin – Just Friends or Boyfriend/Girlfriend?Barney (played by Neil Patrick Harris) has been secretly seeing Robin (played by Cobie Smulders) all summer. The pair has kept it a secret because neither of them is interested in having “the talk”. Meaning, the relationship talk, or the talk that defines what exactly is going on between the two. Are they dating or just friends? Since they refuse to have “the talk,” the pair decides to keep their relationship a secret in order to avoid scrutiny from the rest of the group. Lily (played by Alyson Hannigan) is ecstatic about the possibility of two of her best friends dating. She does not think it is good for them to carry on in a “friends with benefits” capacity unless they have “the talk”. In order to get Robin and Barney to discuss where their relationship stands, Lily locks them in Robin’s bedroom. With the help of her husband Marshall (played by Jason Segal), Lily forces Robin and Barney to write down their relationship status and slip it under the door. Robin and Barney don’t want to admit that they are dating, they don’t want to talk about it, so they decide to lie and write down “Boyfriend and Girlfriend” and slip it to Lily. They tell each other they are lying, just to appease Lily. The relationship-phobic Robin and Barney might not realize it yet, but they have actually fallen for each other and want to be together. Ted is a College ProfessorThe end of Season 4 showed Ted (played by Josh Radnor) making a major life decision. After an accident that left him in the hospital, Ted decided to leave his job at the architecture firm and become a college professor. The premiere of Season 5 finds ted preparing for his first day of teaching. Prior to Ted’s first day, he is anxiety ridden. He has nightmares about the class and vents his stress to his friends. Ever supportive Marshall gives Ted plenty of “you can do it!” advice, while Barney reminds him to never show weakness. Armed with the advice of his friends, Ted shows up to teach his first class. In an awkward scene, Ted babbles on to a confused group of college students until he finally realized that he is in the wrong classroom. He races across campus to his correct classroom. The rush of being late to the right place eases Ted’s anxiety on what type of professor he should be, and in the end he is just himself. Who is Ted’s Future Wife? The question that long time fans of How I Met Your Mother have been pondering for 4 seasons is hopefully answered soon. Narrator Ted hints to his children, that their mother was in the first classroom. He said this, when the young version of himself was in the wrong classroom and therefore the woman is not in Ted’s architecture class. Chances are it will take all season for Ted to meet the woman he is fated to marry. Either way, it will be worth the wait as this cast is a joy to watch in their natural and funny, albeit at time outrageous, portrayal of five best friends.
