Hung is the new HBO comedy about a Detroit man who is down on his luck and goes into the world's oldest profession. Thomas Jane stars as Ray Drecker, a divorced dad, strapped for cash, who decides to take drastic action in an effort to gain control of his life. Hung also stars Anne Heche, Eddie Jemison, Jane Adams, Sianoa Smit-McPhee and Charlie Saxton.
Hung a New Series on HBO
Hung kicked off its first season on June 28, 2009; exclusively on HBO. The first season consists of ten half-hour episodes, airing on Sunday nights at 9 PM ET. The show uses dark humor to tell the story of a man in a troubled economy who fights to survive.
Man Goes Into World's Oldest Profession
Ray Drecker (Thomas Jane) is a high school basketball coach who is already strapped for cash when his rundown, waterfront house is damaged by fire. His son (Charlie Saxton) and daughter (Sianoa Smit-McPhee) decide to go live with their mother (Anne Heche) and her smug husband (Eddie Jemison).
Ray decides to attend a class that teaches entrepreneurs to become millionaires, where he hooks up with Tanya (Jane Adams). Tanya has the heart of poet but attends the self improvement class in a effort to better herself to get out of her dead-end job.
Ray decides that his greatest asset is his physical endowment and that he is gifted in pleasing the ladies.Tanya offers to become his pimp and Ray goes into the world's oldest profession. Ray may have the basic assets, but Tanya has to coach to him approach women with more finesse in order to become a successful “Happiness Consultant.”
So far Ray's efforts have been comical rather than successful. Ray tries to keep his side venture a secret from his family, high school associates and students. Ray's children want to move back in with him, giving him additional incentive to raise the money to fix his house. In addition to his other problems, Ray has an obnoxious neighbor who keeps reporting him for code violations and indecent exposure.
Hung does contain nudity and the subject matter is adult content. As distasteful as the subject matter may sound, Hung offers some laugh out loud moments as Ray is fairly innocent in spite of his choice of profession.
