This season of HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm will feature a running storyline about a Seinfeld reunion show.
Larry David, creator and star of Curb Your Enthusiasm on HBO was the driving force with Jerry Seinfeld behind the popular sitcom Seinfeld, which ran from 1990-1998. The told the Television Critics Association that this season will have a storyline about a Seinfeld reunion show with the Seinfeld cast popping up throughout the season in preparation for their reunion show. Although there is not really going to be a real Seinfeld reunion show, the idea of it and the preparation for it merges into the sitcom Curb Your Enthusiasm. “The context is that for years I've been asked about a Seinfeld reunion, as has Jerry [Seinfeld] and the other cast members, and then one day I realized that I would always say, ‘No, there's no reunion. There's not going to be a reunion show. We would never do that. It's a lame idea.’ And then I thought, ‘But it might be very funny to do that on Curb.’ And I kept thinking about the idea. I started to think of different scenarios and how we could pull this off, and I called Jerry. And Jerry was game. And I said, ‘Well, I'll call the others,’ and I did. And we did it. So we're doing a Seinfeld reunion show on Curb.” Showing the Preparations for a Seinfeld Reunion Show on Curb Your EnthusiasmThroughout the season the viewers will see all aspects of creating a Seinfeld reunion woven through the series. “We're going to see writing. We'll see aspects of the read-through, parts of rehearsals. [Viewers will] see the show being filmed. And [they’ll] see it on TV.” He explained further about how the Seinfeld show is going to be interspersed with the Curb show. “What will you see? You won't see the entire show. You'll see parts of the show. You will get an idea of what happened 11 years later, and within the show, it will be incorporated into regular Curb episodes. So the cast members will be playing themselves on Curb while all this is going on.” Larry David clarified that the viewers will not see a Seinfeld show “from beginning to end, but [they] will see parts of the show.” This storyline is woven through the season, and various members of the Seinfeld cast will be on five episodes. As David detailed for the journalists, “All four [cast members] won't be on all five shows. Jerry's on five shows, I think. The others will be on at least four. Maybe one or two of the others will be on five. I'm not sure.” While this storyline weaves through the Curb Your Enthusiasm season, the season finale will be about the Seinfeld reunion show. Getting Back in the GrooveEleven years after ending the Seinfeld series, Larry David said it was easy to get back into the Seinfeld groove again. He said it was like riding a bike. “It was surprisingly smooth. Coming up with the right ideas for what's happened in 11 years, that took some thought. Three of the guys working on my show (Curb Your Enthusiasm) as executive producers also were producers on Seinfeld, so I was working with them, and I think we came up with some interesting stuff.” Curb Your Enthusiasm airs Sundays on HBO.
