Bored to Death is a new comedy series on HBO, about a young writer in Brooklyn who longs to be heroic so tries his hand at being a private detective. Jonathan Ames created the series starring Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson and Zach Galifianakis. Bored to Death Episode 1 'Stockholm Syndrome'Jonathan Ames (Jason Schwartzman) is an artistic young writer in Brooklyn who feels lost after his girlfriend Suzanne (Olivia Thirlby) moves out on him. The story opens as she is moving out, reminding Jonathan than she had told him that he needed to stop drinking and smoking pot but he did not. Jonathan's friend and confidant Ray Hueston (Zach Galifianakis) urges him to look for a new girlfriend immediately and recommends Craigslist. Instead of advertising for a girlfriend, Jonathan advertises his services as an unlicensed private detective on Craigslist. George Christopher (Ted Danson) is a magazine editor and Jonathan's boss. The viewer's introduction to Christopher is when Jonathan attends an elegant gallery in New York, but arrives late. He thinks he is in trouble with his boss, but instead George asks if Jonathan has any pot. The two men retire to the mens room to smoke pot and talk about women and sex. The following morning Jonathan is awakened by a phone call which turns out to be his first case. He is hired by a young woman to find her sister because he advertised that his rates are reasonable. What follows is a comedic story of how not to be a private detective. Among his mistakes is forgetting to ask her to pay expenses, so he loses money on the case. Jonathan does just about everything wrong, but his heart is in the right place as he tries to help his client. After being advised by the police to stay out of the PI business, Jonathan returns home in disappointment but receives another phone call from a potential client. The episode ends as Jonathan accepts his second PI case. The writer is hooked on the dream of being a private detective. Cast and Production of Bored to Death
